Dresden. Der Kader des DSC nimmt für die kommende Saison weiter Formen an. So wurden die Verträge mit Zuspielerin Jenna Gray (23) und Mittelblockerin Madeleine Gates (22) für eine weitere Saison verlängert. Beide haben einen großen Anteil am Erfolg der abgelaufenen Saison des Dresdner SC. Diese Erfolgsgeschichte geht nun weiter.
Jenna Gray glänzte mit ihrem guten Zuspiel, ihrer Schnelligkeit und blieb auch in schwierigen Situationen ein Ruhepol auf dem Feld. Cheftrainer Alexander Waibl zur weiteren Verpflichtung:
„Jenna ist eine Anführerin, sie liebt den Wettkampf und möchte immer gewinnen. Das konnte ich 4 Jahre lang am College beobachten, Deshalb hatten wir sie verpflichtet. Sie hat sich in ihrer ersten Saison super entwickelt und meine Erwartungen noch übertroffen. Sie wird noch besser werden und unserer jungen zweiten Zuspielerin Sarah Straube weiterhin ein großartiges Vorbild sein. Es macht einfach Spaß mit ihr zu arbeiten, ich freue mich sehr auf eine weitere Saison mit ihr!“

Die Amerikanerin freut sich derweil schon jetzt an die Elbe zurückzukommen. „Ich liebe Dresden, es ist eine tolle Stadt mit großartigen Fans“, schwärmt die 23-Jährige. „Die Unterstützung der Fans über die gesamte Saison hinweg war wirklich überwältigend und das, obwohl wir keinen direkten Kontakt pflegen konnten.“
Die Ziele für die kommende Saison stehen für Gray ebenfalls schon fest: „Natürlich möchte ich, dass wir unseren Titel verteidigen, darauf freue ich mich und auf die Champions League! Hoffentlich erleben wir die kommende Saison mit den Fans in der Halle.“

Madeleine Gates konnte sich in ihrem ersten Profijahr ebenfalls ausgezeichnet bewähren und komplettierte den Mittelblock mit ihrer dynamischen Spielweise. Die Kalifornierin etablierte sich schnell in der Stammformation, sieht aber natürlich Potenzial sich noch weiter zu verbessern. „Ich freue mich sehr darauf nach Dresden zurückzukommen und mit dem Verein eine zweite Saison zu spielen“, sagte die 22-Jährige. „Natürlich möchten wir auf unserem Erfolg der abgelaufenen Saison aufbauen. Ich möchte mich als Spielerin weiterentwickeln und natürlich hoffe ich die DSC Fans in der Margon Arena zu erleben!“

Alexander Waibl sieht noch einiges an Möglichkeiten bei seiner Startnummer #16. „Madi ist eine unglaublich intelligente junge Mittelblockerin mit einer enormen physischen Präsenz auf dem Feld. Jeder konnte sehen, dass sie in der Meistersaison mehr Fokus auf Block als auf Angriff legen musste. Im kommenden Jahr wird sie auch ihr Angriffstalent unter Beweis stellen können und eine noch komplettere Spielerin werden. Super, dass sie bei uns bleibt!“

Madeleine Gates and Jenna Gray extend for 2021/22
Dresden. The DSC squad continues to take shape for the upcoming season. For example, the contracts with Setter Jenna Gray (23) and Middle Blocker Madeleine Gates (22) have been extended for another season. Both played a major role in the success of the past season of Dresdner SC. The two aim to continue this story of success.
Jenna Gray proofed her talent with her good passing, her speed and remained a calming influence on the field even during difficult situations. Head coach Alexander Waibl on the extension of her contract:
„Jenna is a leader, she loves competition and always wants to win. I could observe that for four years in college, that’s why we wanted her. She did great in her first season and exceeded my expectations. She will get even better and continue to be a great role model for our young second Setter Sarah Straube. She’s just a lot of fun to work with, I’m really looking forward to another season with her!“
Meanwhile, the American is already looking forward to coming back to the Elbe. „I’m so excited to come back to Dresden for a second season. I fell in love with the city and was so amazed by the fan support throughout this last season, even socially distanced.
Gray’s goals for the upcoming season are also already set: „I am eager to defend our title and compete in champions league, hopefully in front of our incredible fan base.”
Madeleine Gates also performed excellently during her first professional year, rounding up the middle block with her dynamic style of play. The Californian quickly established herself in the regular lineup, but of course sees potential to improve even further. „“I am very excited to return to Dresden for a second season and build upon the success of the team from this past year,“ said the 22-year-old. „I look forward to continue to grow as a player this upcoming year and hopefully get to see more DSC fans in the stands at Margon Arena!”
Alexander Waibl still sees some potential in his starting #16. „Madi is an incredibly intelligent young Middle Blocker with a tremendous physical presence on the court. Everyone could see that she had to focus more on block than attack during the championship season. Next year she will also be able to show her attacking talent and become an even more complete player. It’s great that she’s staying with us!“
