Was für ein Start in die 25. Bundesliga-Saison! Die DSC Volleyball Damen haben die Serie durchbrochen und sich im vierten Anlauf den Supercup „gekrallt“. Vor rund 1000 Zuschauern setzte sich der Deutsche Meister bei Pokalsieger SSC Palmberg Schwerin in einem packenden und hochspannenden Spiel am Ende mit 3:2 (25:17, 25:18, 17:25, 18:25, 15:10) durch. Ein Jubiläum feiert damit auch Cheftrainer Alexander Waibl, der zum Auftakt seiner 13. Saison in Dresden seinen nunmehr zehnten Titel holen kann.
Anschließend zeigte sich der 53-Jährige auch sehr zufrieden: „Wir haben drei Sätze an unserem oberen Limit gespielt. Besser geht es zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt nicht. Das war der absolut perfekte Start in die neue Saison und ich freue mich über eine geschlossene Mannschaftsleistung. In den Sätzen drei und vier haben wir etwas die Energie und Konzentration verloren, aber Kompliment an die Mannschaft, wie sie sich emotional und mit großer Nervenstärke im fünften Satz zurückgemeldet hat. Und das auch noch auswärts in Schwerin. Am Ende haben wir verdient gewonnen.“
Alexander Waibl schickte diese Startformation aufs Spielfeld: Jenna Gray im Zuspiel, Maja Storck auf der Diagonalen, im Außenangriff erhielten Jennifer Janiska und Linda Bock das Vertrauen, auf der Mitte Madeleine Gates und Monique Strubbe sowie auf der Liberaposition Sophie Dreblow.
Die Dresdnerinnen starteten hoch konzentriert in die Partie. Sie schlugen druckvoll auf, die von Sophie Dreblow organisierte Annahme stand sicher. Jenna Gray konnte ihre Angreiferinnen variabel einsetzen und diese nutzten ihre Chancen konsequent. Auch die Block- und Feldabwehr erwies sich als sehr kompakt. So zogen die Gäste auf 9:5 davon und zwangen den Schweriner Trainer Felix Koslowski zur ersten Auszeit. Doch die DSC-Damen ließen sich nicht beeindrucken. Mit einer Aufschlagserie von Monique Strubbe und einigen „Hammer-Angriffen“ von Maja Storck bauten die Dresdnerinnen den Vorsprung auf 18:10 aus. Bis zum Schluss zog das Waibl-Team voll durch, leistete sich kaum Fehler und mit einem Tipp-Ball nutzte Kapitän Jennifer Janiska gleich den ersten Satzball.
Auch im zweiten Durchgang bestimmten die taktisch hervorragend eingestellten Gäste das Geschehen auf dem Spielfeld. Als Maja Storck (insgesamt 25 Punkte), die sich in den ersten beiden Sätzen schon wieder in blendender Form präsentierte, nach einem langen Ballwechsel das Spielgerät zum 5:0 ins gegnerische Feld beförderte, musste Koslowski diesmal sehr früh seine erste Auszeit nehmen. Aber es half alles nichts, die DSC-Mädels waren nicht zu stoppen. Sie setzten ihren Game-Plan weiter kompromisslos um. Beim 21:14 erhielt sogar die junge Julia Wesser ihren ersten Einsatz an der Aufgabe. Die 18-Jährige machte das hervorragend wie auch noch einmal später im dritten und fünften Abschnitt. Am Ende ging auch dieser Satz klar an die Gäste.
Anschließend folgte eine sechsminütige Pause, die Schwerin nutzte, um sich zu sammeln. Während nun die Gastgeberinnen besser aufschlugen, mehr Durchschlagskraft im Angriff entwickelten und auch ihre Abwehr stabilisierten, ging bei den Waibl-Schützlingen der Faden etwas verloren. Die Annahme begann zu wackeln, es konnte nicht mehr so hochprozentig gescort werden und es schlichen sich insgesamt zu viele Fehler ein. So erkämpfte sich der Pokalsieger den Satzanschluss und zog das Momentum auf seine Seite. Das Team von Trainer Felix Koslowski diktierte von Beginn an das Geschehen im vierten Durchgang und setzte sich schnell ab. Alexander Waibl versuchte mit mehreren Wechseln neue Impulse zu setzen. So bissen sich seine Schützlinge noch einmal auf zwei Punkte (17:19) heran, konnten aber den Satzausgleich durch die Gastgeberinnen nicht mehr verhindern.
Im entscheidenden Tiebreak aber waren die DSC-Mädels wieder voll da. Sie bewiesen mentale Stärke und Riesenmoral, stabilisierten sich. Sie schlugen besser auf, die Annahme stand und auch die Block- und Feldabwehr. Zudem punkteten die Waibl-Schützlinge wieder zuverlässiger. Beim 8:5 wurden zum letzten Mal die Seiten gewechselt. Wenig später gab es lange Diskussionen um einen Ballwechsel und eine Challenge. Der Punkt ging an die DSC-Mädels, die sich von der langen Unterbrechung nicht aus der Ruhe bringen ließen. Nach insgesamt 144 Minuten verwandelte Maja Storck mit einer fulminanten Aufgabe den ersten Matchball zum verdienten Sieg.

Champions DSC win Supercup for the first time
What a way to start the 25th Bundesliga season! The DSC Volleyball Ladies have broken the streak and „clinched“ the Supercup for the first time in their fourth attempt. In front of around 1000 spectators, the German champions won 3:2 (25:17, 25:18, 17:25, 18:25, 15:10) against cup winners SSC Palmberg Schwerin in a gripping and highly exciting match. Head coach Alexander Waibl is also celebrating a jubilee, as he is able to win his tenth title at the start of his 13th season in Dresden.
Afterwards, the 53-year-old was also very satisfied: „We played three sets at our upper maximum. It doesn’t get any better than that at this point. That was the absolutely perfect start to the new season and I’m delighted with a solid team performance. In sets three and four we lost a bit of energy and concentration, but compliments to the team on how they came back emotionally and with great resilience in the fifth set. And that away from home in Schwerin, too. In the end, we deserved to win.“

The Dresdeners started the match highly concentrated. They served with a lot of pressure, the reception organized by Sophie Dreblow was secure. Jenna Gray was able to use her attackers variably and they used their chances consistently. The block and field defense also proved to be very compact. So the guests pulled away to 9:5 and forced the Schwerin coach Felix Koslowski to the first timeout. But the DSC ladies were not impressed. With a service run by Monique Strubbe and some „hammer attacks“ by Maja Storck, the Dresdeners extended their lead to 18:10. Waibl’s team kept going until the end, hardly made any mistakes and captain Jennifer Janiska took the first set point with a tip ball.
In the second set, too, the tactically excellently adjusted guests dominated the action on the court. When Maja Storck (25 points in total), who had been in excellent form again in the first two sets, put the ball into the opponent’s court 5:0 after a long rally, Koslowski had to take his first time-out very early this time. But it didn’t help, the DSC girls were unstoppable. They continued to implement their game plan without compromise. At 21:14, even the young Julia Wesser got her first assignment. The 18-year-old did an excellent job, as she did again later in the third and fifth sections. In the end, this set also went clearly to the guests.
This was followed by a six-minute break, which Schwerin used to collect themselves. While the hosts served better, developed more power in attack and stabilized their defense, Waibl’s protégés lost the momentum a bit. The reception began to wobble, they were no longer able to score at such a high percentage and too many mistakes crept in. Thus, the cup winners fought their way back into the set and gained the momentum on their side. The team of coach Felix Koslowski dictated the action in the fourth set from the beginning and quickly pulled away. Alexander Waibl tried to set new impulses with several changes. Thus, his protégées once again came within two points (17:19), but could no longer prevent the hosts from equalizing the set.
In the decisive tiebreak, however, the DSC girls were back with full force. They showed mental strength and huge morale, stabilized themselves. They served better, the reception was solid and so was the block and field defense. In addition, Waibl’s protégés scored more reliably again. At 8:5 the sides were changed for the last time. A little later, there were long discussions about a rally and a challenge. The point went to the DSC girls, who did not let the long interruption upset them. After a total of 144 minutes, Maja Storck scored the first match point with a brilliant service for a well-deserved victory.
